Former Bahamian restaurant now Crypto co-working space

The former Luciano’s of Chicago on East Bay Street will now be called Crypto Isle and will be The Bahamas’ first cryptocurrency and blockchain co-working space, according to a press statement on the matter, which reveals that Crypto Isle will host a Future of Caribbean Money (FOCMNY) Conference ahead of its formal opening.

According to the statement, Crypto Isle will feature an oceanfront co-working space with private offices and communal spaces, an on-site restaurant, conference room, and members-only lounge.

The FOCMNY conference will be held at the former Italian restaurant on December 8 and 9. It will feature presentations by Prime Minister Philip Brave Davis and Minister of Economic Affairs Michael Halkitis.

Crypto Isle’s Chief Executive Officer Dr. P. Jillian Bethel said now is the time to broaden the discussions around cryptocurrency and blockchain.

“We’re proud to sponsor the Future of Caribbean Money Conference to demonstrate our commitment, ahead of our official launch, to demystify blockchain and digital currencies for beginners and help seasoned pros stay sharp,” she said.

The statement said The Bahamas has already positioned itself as a forerunner in the digital economy with the launch of the world’s first digital currency, Sand Dollar, and through the introduction of the Digital Assets and Registered Exchanges Act, which has attracted players like Tether, Bitfinex, and FTX.

It added that Crypto Isle, as the country’s only crypto co-working space, will advance the use of digital assets and technology for both beginners and seasoned crypto users.

“It’s time we amplify the knowledge and broaden the discussion around blockchain and crypto as an engine for Caribbean economic development,” said Bethel.

FOCMNY will feature more than ten panels, fireside chats, and master classes, the statement revealed.

Ingrid Riley, founder of SiliconCaribe – organizer of the FOCMNY Conference – said more than 30 Caribbean and global speakers representing businesses and organizations already shaping the crypto space will be presenting.

“Ahead of its official launch, Crypto Isle will welcome hundreds of virtual digital asset enthusiasts as FOCMNY amplifies the people and businesses using technology, collaboration, community and daring policy to reimagine the future of Caribbean money,” the statement noted.

“As the venue sponsor, Crypto Isle joins other sponsors, including Microsoft and First Atlantic Commerce.”
