Prime Minister Perry Christie said on Wednesday that the Bahamas government has begun the process of selecting a second mobile service provider and expects that licence to be awarded by the end of 2015.  Christie spoke at the launch of the request for proposals (RFP) for the second cellular licence.
Members of the Cellular Liberalization Task Force, which Christie established last April, were also present at the event.

“While my government recognizes the Bahamas Telecommunications Company’s (BTC) efforts to continuously modernize its cellular service offerings here in The Bahamas, we nonetheless consider that in order to enable all Bahamians to benefit from, and participate in an intensely integrated global economy, it is critical that access to mobile and broadband technology becomes more affordable and accessible to everyone in our society,” Christie said.
