TECH NEWS – WE live in a world that is defined by the speed at which we can get things done. Horse drawn carriages have long been replaced by cars, some fast enough to be called Jaguars and the advent of the Internet has made digital communication the method of choice over traditional postal services for sending and receiving information. From fast cars to fast service, it is evident that the world has a need for speed.

The compulsion of people for faster means of communication comes with the uncompromising desire for reliability and security so companies invest significantly in research and development to introduce innovative products and services to meet the growing needs of consumers.

In January 2014, blink quad-play unveiled Trinidad and Tobago’s first gigabit community at the Legacy Housing Development, Chaguanas. This community, developed with the support of technology partner CALIX, is also the first of its kind in the English speaking Caribbean and has potential to revolutionise the internet landscape in the country. Homes participating in the trial have been provided with fibre optic connections to the network that allow for Internet speeds of up to one gigabit per second. At this speed it will take just one second for a user to download 100 million characters of text, 1250 basic web pages or 25 songs. more
