TECH NEWS – TRINIDAD and Tobago (TT), the nation which invented the only new acoustic instrument of the 20th Century, the steel- pan, cannot be a country that is transferring and applying technology. We must design, produce and sell our own technology and create our own solutions as opposed to searching for answers beyond our borders.
These are among the many pillars required to transform TT into a highly diversified knowledge-based economy, Science and Technology Minister Dr Rupert Griffith said in his feature address at the Prime Minister’s Award Ceremony for Scientific Ingenuity at the Hyatt Regency, Wrightson Road, Port-of-Spain, on Saturday night. The ceremony saw 55 persons being honoured on the night for their scientific innovation by NIHERST.
Griffith said it was critical to begin to shape our science and education system to meet the needs of building the country’s capacity to compete globally. He said TT was now part of the knowledge economy where we could be an active participant rather than allowing bigger players to determine how we fit in.More
