ROAD TOWN, Tortola (GIS) — Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Mark Vanterpool is encouraging women and girls to bridge the digital divide as the Territory celebrates International Girls in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) Day. International Girls in ICT Day is celebrated each year on the fourth Thursday in April. It is an initiative spearheaded by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) It is intended to create a global environment that empowers and encourages girls and young women to consider careers in the growing field of information and communication technologies (ICTs).
During a statement to commemorate the day, Minister Vanterpool said, “The field of ICTs has a growing need for skilled professionals to fill exciting jobs such as mobile application developers, network and system security specialists, technical writers, network managers and administrators, technical trainers, information officers, multimedia specialists, and web developers.” More
