ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Information and statistics on hospitals, schools, crime, the economy, agriculture, and just about every sector of government could soon be available to the public in a user-friendly package. That is the plan of the Ministry of Telecommunications, Science and Technology, which is working with an Open Data Readiness team from the World Bank and Caribbean Open Institute.
The team is to meet with members of the public today to explain Data Openness and how it can be commonly used. The open discussion is set to take place at the City View Hotel this evening at 7.Open Data is the idea that non-sensitive, government information should be available to the public freely or at a minimal cost.The assessment team is on a “fact-finding mission” this week to evaluate how ready the nation is to set up such a platform.
