I’m constantly looking to improve SiliconCaribe. In some of the feedback I’ve received continuously, is to step up the coverage of Caribbean and Caribbean-led Startups. I couldn’t agree more since it’s a passion of mine, at the core of the mission of Kingston BETA and Caribbean BETA, sister initiatives to SiliconCaribe.
Plus I’ve been very aware of the the constant surge in awareness of Kingston BETA and the fresh, curious faces who are attending wanting to know if their idea of using the Internet to do something spectacular can fly. Added to that there is an underground bubbling up of initiatives that I believe must be shared with the world as they are worthy and will inspire others to be bold and push forward with theirs.
So I’m going to make it happen, so for the rest of the year you will see us profiling lots of startups and technology initiatives worthy of the spotlight.
How we define a Tech Startup?
A Startup is a new business, company or project, one that’s typically under 18 months old. The term became popular internationally during the dot-com bubble when a great number of dot-com companies were founded. So it follows that a Tech Startup is a new business, company or project that specialises in the high-tech industry…i.e. is Internet, mobile, telecoms, software, ecommerce…etc you get the picture.
What I’m specifically looking for:
• Caribbean and Caribbean-led startups and projects (wherever they are in the world) that was launched under 18months ago. We are also open to startups and projects that have a Caribbean individual as a co-founder or in the executive lead team.
• A sentence description of what you do and the domain name where we can find you.
• A .jpeg, .png of your logo.
• Your story in brief (how you got started, how you met your cofounder).
• How are you measuring traction/growth…or how well it’s doing in the marketplace?
