Jamaica: Your technological backwardness is showing… badly

Published

on

THE current level of science and technology in Jamaica, let’s face it, is showing that we are not developing but rather becoming more underdeveloped.
New technology is being developed and commercialised every day, and to avoid falling behind in competitiveness and productivity Jamaica must urgently install the latest and most efficiency-enhancing technology, or remain underdeveloped.
The low level of Internet access is a clear sign of our technological backwardness. An estimated 84 per cent of the population does not have Internet access at home, mainly because of the high cost of Internet service and the lack of availability in some areas.
This is unfortunate though not entirely surprising in a poor country. What is appalling is that 40 per cent do not know how to use the Internet and 22 per cent see no need to know or are not interested in learning to use the Internet. More
