“Major global players”, who have still not been identified, are expected in Antigua & Barbuda today to devise a strategy to battle the United States over Internet gaming.
The conference has been organised after years of diplomatic attempts to get Washington to abide by the World Trade Organisation (WTO) judgment which has given member countries right of access to the hundreds of billions of dollars spent in the US on gaming each year.
Marshalling support from the world industry has been tried by the administration of Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer before, but it’s the first time Antigua & Barbuda is hosting such a conference and within its borders.
Previous attempts to get global Internet gaming interests to fight alongside Antigua & Barbuda against the US blockade used approaches such as canvassing for support from nations and companies attending forums in the United Kingdom and applying successfully to be listed as one of the jurisdictions trusted by the British Government to operate in the industry.
