Travel Tuesday: Jamaica Pegasus the most influential Jamaican hotel on Twitter

I’ve been pretty impressed by Jamaica Pegasus’s move to build its brand using Twitter ( @jamaicapegasus). The marketing manager there Prudence Simpson, plus Jan D and Cliff B make up the small team that handles things. They had their first Tweetup ( a gathering of tweeters for a specific event) in June this year and are staging another this Friday. The first, had a little over 100 Jamaican tweeters in attendance, sponsorship from British Airways, live entertainment and they got ALOT of online publicity out it. People were live tweeting while at the event, posting pictures to their respective followers on Twitter, their blogs, checking in using Foursquare and updating their Facebook statuses. Really, can your television, newspaper or radio ads do that?! I don’t think so.

This  Friday, their September 3rd Tweetup has been a wow and it still has days to do. There was an initial 300 spots that went live and they all vanished in less than 8 hrs. Without question, Jamaica Pegasus has found itself in an enviable position as the one hotel in Jamaica that has officially hosted a Tweetup and a tweetup for Jamaican tweeters. They have endeared themselves to the early adopters, the tech savvy, the influential tech professionals and industry players on Twitter and online generally and that’s going to mean alot for their brand going forward. Think solid brand affinity.

They are pretty active online, tweeting and retweeting daily, making it not such a surprise, that they are also the most influential Jamaican Hotel on Twitter in the Jamaica category according to WeFollow.com, which is considered the best Twitter directory in the industry right now and the one Caribbean Tweeters use the most.

The only thing left for them to do in my book, is to fly-the-gate on the Lobby area wifi. Make it free and open. They wouldn’t have space to hold people who would make it a hotel of choice for hanging out, working, impromptu meetings and generating income from events, catering from the associations and companies of the individuals who use this facility.

If you were one of those who got one of the spaces for the Tweetup this Friday, we’ll be there @siliconcaribe is our handle. We’ll be live tweeting too.
