GEORGETOWN, Guyana- Guyana is set to soon see increased bandwidth capacity as a new fiber optic cable is being landed here from Suriname and is expected to increase the internet speed by some 3,000 times says Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) Joseph Singh.
“There will be increased DSL and broadband to home capabilities through cheap bandwidth, increased multi media content in the form of digital TV and increased ability to deliver broadband to the handset in terms of 3G. These are just some of the major benefits of this new cable,” Singh said.
The cable, which originates in Trinidad, will pass through Suriname and land in Guyana at Kingston, and is expected to be completed by mid year.
