Jamaica-This was one of the themes that I touched on in my presentation at the Caribbean Media Conference and Expo. It simply means that content is going to be cut up, mixed and remixed by someone, so why not you?
Consumers have largely grown accustomed to finding content all over the place – including on the web. Channels like Comedy Central have taken their experience with Youtube and learnt that people don’t just want to watch on television anymore. These traditional companies have expanded their content delivery channels to include their own video websites, other video platforms like Joost and we can expect even more. Take a look at the new Daily Show website that was recently launched: www.thedailyshow.com
Caribbean media is not far behind in leveraging delivery platforms. The winners are going to be content owners, producers and those with the appropriate licenses, and the delivery platforms that differentiate themselves enough to attract real advertising dollars.
I certainly plan to purchase a Mac Mini (not an AppleTV), hook it up to a nice 32-inch LCD TV and watch Joost content using my wireless keyboard and mouse. Using the Mac Mini, I can also watch video podcasts that I subscribe to and traditional DVDs, not to mention access video websites and watch that content on a large screen for a change.
The convergence of the web and television has been talked about for years but it is actually becoming a reality now and the future media landscape will be very interesting. Are you planning to take advantage of this opportunity as a producer, content owner, delivery platform or advertiser?
