The Internet is open when it comes to the ability for anyone to start a blog, put up a site directory, launch a corporate website or social network. There are a lot of Caribbean newspapers, TV and radio stations that now have internet properties; there are entrepreneurs who’ve created social networks, started media blogs, created message boards or site directories- but are they making money and if so, how?
On media websites like the Jamaica Gleaner, Trinidad Express you see a few buttons ads from local advertisers, in addition to the oodles of Google ads and a few affiliate programmes. On blogs and social networks you see the skyscraper google ads and text links, but are they making money? Maybe the bigger question is, can you make money online as a Caribbean blogger, site publisher, owner of a social network, message board, site director, music video site?
